Sutures

Sutures

By Christian Martinez

The earth rips in two and transmutes to mire

All I loved sloughs to mud and tears apart

Dismay and reel to seal the cracks with wire.

It is not the world that breaks but my heart

I set my jaw, close my eyes for a while

The tears sprout back, back like horns through my head.

And I force for the world a patient smile.

I give you all

You say I am not mature

I give these studies all

For whelmed there is no suture

I give and give and give

Pain in my eye I immure.

And my heart is ripped from my chest

And the world feels gone

And my heart is ripped from my chest

And no fear nor pain is calmed

And my heart is ripped from my chest

And this darkness has won.

I gave my all. I gave my all.
