River City

River City

By Cristian Martinez

River city, an oxbow lake walk for two,
I see your line every time I walk to you,
River city, a purple dusk ‘gainst the blue,
There’s so much that I worry to be true.

I want this to flow into trust,
I want to feel cared for again,
But every hit for a card I fear I’ll bust,
It seems every morning sings the wren.

River city, you trade seasons for the fall,
I hope to fall just the same, just as lovers do,
River city, dawns with clouds and a cold call,
Perhaps brisk will bring us closer to new.

River city, an oxbow lake walk for two,
Would you give me your hand, let me walk it with you.
