Canvas

Canvas

By Melody Adeshina

I am an empty canvas
You lay your brush on me with ease
I take your pain away
Allowing emotion to be released

Your brush gently caresses my body
Your pencil dances along my skin
I think of you fondly
My love deepens from within
An unrequited love
A love shared but not reciprocated
The same brush used on me now tainted and jaded

Where does your faith lie
I see I am not the only one
But the one you rely on
The one covered in shades of blue
While your past lovers’ are given colorful hues

I am your comfort
You live vicariously through how I am portrayed
Your technique lingers in my thoughts
Yet you make me feel a constant dismay

It is a forbidden love
One that I can’t trust
A loyalty lost in lust

So cover me with black and white
My shadow looms
I hope to be forgotten
Maybe another love will bloom
