A House of Moments

A House of Moments

By Cristian Martinez

Our home of two, what will it be made of?
What measure of concrete and two-by-fours?
Strong beams or smooth seams for the ceilings above?
Plaster, brick, tile, wood; then, what of the doors?

I love to plan with you for the aesthetic,
The kitchen, study, garden, and the bed,
But, such plans are uncertain whims mimetic,
And there is something eager to be said:

A house means little to the moments with you,
To coffee, breakfast, the rain storming,
Us watching, or us scratching off our “to-do”,
A kiss on my shoulder the next morning.

A house will change, place or style, like weather,
And home will remain these moments together.
